When Ed Feldman, frontman for the New York based trio Gapeseed. digs into a Gapeseed tune, he sounds like a man who is teetering on the brink of manic insanity. Gapeseed aren't your typical one-dimensional power trio. Impressively, they pool their energy to create an entirely different force. "1:59" is a lo-fi home recording with Ed putting in a restrained, distorted vocal, while "Lazarus Sparkplug" is a disjointed tune that clunks along with an odd sense of urgency. There's plenty of diversity on Lo Cell, making it a strong debut with plenty of frenzied madness to keep your head spinning for weeks. The album is available from Silver Girl Records, PO Box 161024, San Diego, CA 92176.
